SAFETY HELP
Question
My name is travis I play high school football I'm in the 10th grade I'm 5'9 and I weigh 184lbs I play strong safety my strengths are my ability to make open field tackles and forcing fumbles but my weakness is my ability to read the quaterbacks eyes I seem to fall for pump fakes. But I can cover a receiver or tight end very good. I started jv and had over 70 tackles and played every varsity game and had a total of 33 tackles 2 forced fumbles. I have 3 scholarship but none are division 1 besides wake forest. So how can I become better at reading the quaterbacks eyes and also how can I play on a level to impress more D1 college recruiters a
Answer
Dear Travis,
A safety should never come up to stop a pass until he sees the football leave the quarterback's hands. You should line-up far enough back to see the football leave his hands and then react to it. If you keep everything in front of you, you should be able to see the receiver and the football. Never let a receiver get in back of you.
