Football Conditioning
Question
I am 24 years old in April and in the midst of getting in shape for the local Semi-Pro Football team. I was a standout All Region OLB/DE but also played RB and KR. Unfortunately I made bad decisions and didn't play college ball. So here I am 6 years later at 5"11.5inches-210lbs (20 lbs heavier) and want to possibly play COLLEGE or maybe in the NFL Replacement League if there is a lock out (prob not). If you could please give me some advice and specifically what position would be realistic for me to pursue. I want to get back to the old me.
My strengths are field vision, great hands, lower body strength, and I still hold the school record for vertical leap (barely can get two hands on the rim anymore). My weaknesses are No secondary experience (OLB covers the flats), my size and stature, stamina as of now. I know this will be tough to answer, but try to give me some direction as that playing ball was once my answer to the question, "What do you see yourself doing in 5 yrs?"
Answer
Dear Chais,
The first thing I would do if I were you, is go talk to the Head Football Coach at your nearest college. You need to do this before you play any Semi-Pro Football. You still might be able to play college football. You need to make sure one way or another. Do not do anything else until you do that. Get back to me and let me know what he had to say.
Your friend,
Louis
