Screen Plays
Question
If a pass is thrown behind the line of scrimmage can lineman be beyond the line of scrimmage before the pass is completed? In high school football.
Answer
Adam
The High School rule [NFHS] is different from the college rule [NCAA]. However in your question it is treated the same way. NFHS Rule 7-5-12 restricts linemen on a legal forward pass play, until the forward pass in flight crosses the neutral zone. In a screen pass play the in flight pass is not designed to cross the neutral zone; therefore there can not be ineligible receivers down field if the ball doesn't cross the NZ. So the simple answer to that Question is Yes.
