tackling
Question
is teaching the kids to tackle at the thighs ( above the knees but slightly below the waist ) ok? or is it frowned upon? I wwas always taught if you can stop the legs you stop the runner
Answer
Hello Adam.
First let me apologize for the late response.
Unfortunately, the game has changed a lot over the years. I remember we called it shooting a block on someone, when you tackled down low. It is a dangerous form of tackling. Some may look at it "funny", but frowned upon, I don't believe so. Now direct helmet shots to the knee area are very dangerous. I am a former running back, so even I look down on those shots.
Now, there is also a defensive player danger in tackling in between the waist and the knee. A knee to the helmet, is now one of the more common "concussions".
I teach center mass tackling which is through the waist, and wrap up.
I hope I have helped you. If you have any further questions, feel free to return to the AllExperts site, and we will be glad to assist you.
