Fullback workouts
Question
I am looking at transferring to a D III school and walking on as a fullback or linebacker. I have never played football before but i have been told i would be good at these positions. Any advice for workouts or anything along those lines?
Answer
The best advice I can give you is to work on your lower leg agility and your power lifts. Agilities should consist of jumping rope, ladders, dot drills, form runs, mini-hurdles... If you are so inclined you should look into plyometrics. The main lifts you should concentrate on are the hang clean, the push jerk, the squat and the dead lift.
When you go to play leave yourself as a blank slate. Let your coaches mold you into a football player. You are actually in an enviable position. Your mind has not been polluted so that you have a tougher time learning the way your coaches want things done. Yes there are plenty of great high school coaches, but there are just as many that teach improper technique and fundamentals. Your college coaches can form you into a player much easier. Sure you may know less coming in, but I would rather have that as a coach. Teaching things over again is not a fun job.
Best of luck to you
