Pin Action
Question
I am a 53 year old, right handed, that throws a slow ball, 12-13mph according to the lane readout. I am throwing a Hammer Emerald Vibe, 14lbs. Normally I throw third arrow or just inside, pretty much straight down with a slight snap at the end. I am fairly accurate in hitting my mark. I have a tendency to leave several seven and ten pins along with some pretty good 8-10 splits. I don't have much of a back swing. One thing that I have noticed is that even when I constantly hit the pocket, I have very little pin action, pins just lay in the channel. How can I improve my pin action?
Answer
Roger,
Your smoother Vibe helps (be sure to keep it shiny) retain more energy for better pin action. Your speed is a detriment. Most centers condition lanes for players with more speed. Unfortunately most organized league bowling is usually enjoyed by "adults", but lane conditions are usually designed by center mechanics, typically younger, harder throwing guys who like the lanes to work good for themselves (or their buddies). Great system??
Your ball layout and the position of the core will dictate how much and where the ball hooks. Layout could be helping, neutral or hindering the ball's performance. Without knowing more, try having your pro shop guy put a weight hole in the ball to add more top weight. This static weight should help the ball push further down the lane and be stronger at the pins. Thanks for the question. Let me know how it works out.
