release or timing

Question
i am having a hard time to get a consistent delivery RH bowler. it seeems my timing/release is off by the fact i am releasing the ball always right of my target and feel like my body is way ahead of the ball and my arm at release. any thoughts or suggestions to help correct this?

Answer

True Bowler Adjustment
Greetings LD, I truly try to listen to my bowler to focus on what they feel is going on. In this case you "feel" you are running to the line, leaving your ball behind. This would coincide with my experience that late timing will cause the ball to pull to the outside a bit more than usual. So...stop running, hahahaa, easier said than done, I know it is. In my book "True Bowling Adjustments," I talk about how spinning the ball in high oil affects your shot, and also how to get into "Good" timing. I don't concern a bowler with "perfect" timing.
For you, or any good bowler, starting the ball too early or too late can cause you to miss the swing at the bottom. I could simply tell you how to get into good timing, which takes two pages of writing, coupled with taking small steps and a good tempo, or I can simply tell you to try the following: LD, when you "feel" you are getting ahead of your bowling ball and it begins to pull to the right and fly outside of your target. Make the "adjustment" of waiting for the ball to come down through the swing instead of pulling it through. You are already at the foul line..."let the ball swing down" and make the decision to either spin it at your ankle, or forward roll it just past your ankle, when needed.
In summary:  Wait, wait, wait, then at your ankle, give it the business! There is no excuse for loosing leverage at the bottom of your swing. However, make what you do, "natural for you."  "Wait for your swing to come down," especially if you are a runner. Invest in a USBC Certified coach, or some other literature that will teach you "good" timing. Also, understand the impact that spinning the ball in high oil has on your ball this could cause your shot to push to the outside also. It will take a little work, but you'll see the difference in time with enough practice. Coaches generally can correct timing issue in one dedicated lesson for sure if there are no other issues such as ball fit, drifting, or falling off the shot! Give it some thought in your pre-shot routine and may success find you smiling at the foul line, when you begin to hit your targets dead on...
