QuestionI want to know is it ok to keep your shoulder open or slightly
further back then your non-bowling arm for a right handed player to
get better line up with your target then parallel yourself
on the release to where you are aiming.
Answer
True Bowler Adjustment
Hello EFRAIN, Its very okay to open your shoulder slightly or to have it further back than your non-bowling arm. The key part of your question stated "so you can line up better with your target. At other times when targeting a bowler, through experience will know when to parallel there shoulders to the target.
As a bowler we have to treat "body adjustments" as the animals they are EFRAIN. Body adjustments are minor bowling adjustments that we take for granted sometimes. You will often find a high level coach noticing these minor adjustments of body parts like the shoulders, trail leg, off arm and hand, knee bend, chicken wing elbow, miss directed slide foot, and even the exaggerated forward body tilt to be like thorns in a bowlers delivery!
In my book "True Bowler Adjustments," I cover every part of the body from head to toe in the very beginning of the book! Its those "basics adjustments" that bowlers rave about, that allow any bowler to score well, while quieting their body and achieving the coach's dream of having good balance at the line every time, and great leverage to deliver the ball.
While facing your target truly is certainly a rule, its an individual preference that must be catered to the bowler because of unique circumstances, which encompasses physical makeup and characteristics. Like "all body adjustments" listed in my book, dropping the shoulder back is sump'n you just have to try and see if it works for you!
What I love about having penned this book for bowlers, is that you can highlight the things that are good for your game, and go back to the front of the book over and over again. You give yourself the opportunity to take a look at things like your shoulders. You can review and see that something may be out of wack for you months down the road.
I appreciate your question EFRAIN. Always work to get your body in a good position to deliver the bowling ball. Often it doesn't have to be text book, but just really close. If you need to tweak it for accuracy sake, then tweak it! However, the point has to be that "any adjustment" helps you to score more "consistently," or "higher" than your previous attempts! (smile) C'mon shoot for that 300 this year!!!
