How big of pin number should I get

Question
Hi I throw my ball down the lane pretty hard and fast and I would like my ball to snap in the pocket farther down the lane should I get a ball with 3-3.5" Pin the ball I use now is the Storm Domination and It had a Pin of 0-1" Pin thank you very much

Answer

True Bowler Adjustment
Hi Robbie, Short pins have a tendency to only be drilled in a few areas on the ball. The 3" pins can be moved around and tweaked a little.

Both rely on the amount of top weight the ball has as far as tolerance to move the pin far to the right of the finger holes for a right handed bowler, or to the left of the finger holes for a left handed bowler!

Now I am a "software guy" as I like to say. I like to get people's minds and bodies prepared to deliver a great shot on the lane. Being a coach, I try not to cross the lines of talking about the bowling ball and all the technical specs that go with them.

That part I like to leave to the "hardware guys" or the pro shop staff due to the complexities of drilling a ball and ensuring that it is legal to participate in any bowling event anywhere in the world.

In my book "True Bowler Adjustments" I talk about how the pin placement affects your ball, how the mass bias affects your ball and the best thing you can do to stack the roll of the ball in your favor!  Its about 4 pages long but its to the point.

In summary: Personally I prefer the 3" pin. With zero top weight for the average house bowler. This allow the bowler and the pro shop staff to move the pin, and mass bias around to tweak the bowling ball if need. Simply put, pinning the ball above the finger will often let the ball travel long and snap. Pinning the ball below the fingers may cause the ball to roll early and sometimes roll out prior to contacting the headpin. Most of the time it depends largely on the player that is throwing the ball.

Thank you for your question Robbie! And one final thing, I answered the question that way since I don't know how your release is. Whether it is spinning, forward roll, two handed style, backup ball, or full roller. As you can see, bowlers are very particular animals! hahahhaaa Git' Yer Roll on Robbie!
