QuestionI have been back bowling again for about a year after a long layoff. I am 62. As hard as I try (at least that is what I tell myself) there are times I can't stay behind the ball and roll my wrist over. Very frustrating. I am a stroker and try to stay around 15.5 mph. I am all over the place on scores. Is there a good drill or tip on how to stay consistent. I do from time to time do the one-step approach at the line.
Thanks so much. Bill

Hi Bill, many bowlers have this issue. The solution can be as simple as breaking your wrist down a little in the beginning. Most bowlers have a tendency to come around the ball. One of the best things you can do is schedule a lesson with a certified coach who has video recording resources.
Getting that kind of feedback is crucial to delivering a consistent release. The mechanics involved often times has to be evaluated by the bowler and the coach. It will involve delaying the lift and spin of the ball from behind the ankle to a position either beside or in front of the ankle.
There is also a slight hand, wrist and forearm motion that coaches can teach you, (onsite) that will catapult you to success.
Speaking of consistency. This lesson or a subsequent lesson will allow a coach to evaluate how you address your approach. To the point, a coach can give you vital setup procedures that will help you deliver the ball consistently, verses just walking up and throwing the ball to an area to an area and hoping for the best. Coaches get excited about this because we then get the opportunity to see you score and begin scoring big!!!
Welcome back to the game Bill. It's definitely time to put your hard hat back on and get into that blue collar mind set. Just find a coach that will work with you. Changing muscle memory takes a minute, but you shouldn't loose your shorts over it in fees. I wish you were here at Red Rock Lanes in Las Vegas! No doubt, together we would work the kinks out my friend!
