How to stop breaking the wrist
Question
I have been bowling since I was a little kid, and I was at the peak of my game in high school. Now, I'm in college and bowl in an adult scratch league on PBA patterns. I didn't have any problems when I bowled in high school, but for some reason I started breaking the wrist during my second step of my four-step approach. My hand moves to the side of the ball, and when I release, I only get side spin. I have heard people say in a million different ways what I am doing wrong, but no one has been able to offer any advice on how to fix my shot. I know it will take time to fix my shot because it has been happening for a while, but what steps should I take to fix my shot when I practice? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks
Answer
Zach,
Has your fit changed? Or more specifically, has the ball fit NOT changed and you've grown (to the point that the ball is hard to control), too short a span? The motions you describe sounds like fit issues or you are altering your game to try to be more precise (That'll mess you up too).
If your ball fit is not the issue, I'd suggest you try pressing your index finger against the ball as you make your approach, the action will stiffen the wrist. How relaxed is your swing? What weight ball do you roll? Has your ball speed changed?
Thanks for the questions, please keep the info coming.
