down lane markers
Question
Hello, what is the distance to the tracer markers around 30-40 ft. I recently bowled nationals and when I returned home our markers seem shorter, don't know if it's an illusion from 78 lns. to 10 lns. thank you.
Answer
Robert,
While I don't know the exact distance to the tracers off the top of my head, the downlane markers on Brunswick's newest Anvilane Version are designed to be a visual reference to help with identifying your breakpoint. Having them be at different points on different lanes would be counter productive.
A 78 lane setting and a 10 lane setting could explain the optical illusion you experienced. Sometimes the height of the ceiling, size of the concourse area and fact that there is a substantial gallery area leads visitors to feel that the playing field at a convention center or in the National Bowling Stadium is different than the "home field" they're used to. While our sport demands very exact parameters for the "playing field (lane, approach, pinsetter, etc.)," I experienced what you did many times going to Nationals. It's certainly a different environment to normal league bowling, but I always found it fun to play in the grandiose setting of the National Tournament.
Thanks for the question.
