One pound of difference?
Question
Hello Warren,
In heavy oil, would one pound of weight make that great of a difference in the traction of a 16 pound ball as opposed to a 15 pound ball? (Each ball is drilled the same and both coverstocks are dulled with the same degree of grit.)
Thank you,
Regi
Answer
Regi,
Most bowlers will roll the heavier ball slower. When it's got more time to hook (slower ball speed), a ball will hook more. But, if the weight of a sixteen is tedious to you (hard to turn with consistency) you may not lift and turn the ball the same as a lighter ball. i found while I rolled the lighter ball somewhat faster I turned it more so the 15 (when I switched years ago) hooked more.
In more oil, ball speed will magnify the slickness of the oil and a stronger rev rate pushes further down the lane, a ball will take longer to slow down, so it looks like it hooks less, while just hooking (too late) later.
If you don't have a good angle on the pocket and the ball is NOT rolling you won't carry very well. Thanks for the question.
