Bowling Ball damage
Question
Four bowling balls were in bags (two each) in a trunk of a car, a drunk left the road and struck the back end of the parked car. The blow knocked the bowling balls out of the trunk and they landed about 25 feet from the car. Looking at the balls, they look OK. I want to know if this type of impact could affect the way they roll or increase the chance they may crack, etc. with continued use.
Answer
Steve,
Glad to hear there was no OTHER damage. From what I know of physics, anything COULD happen, but should not. Your bowling balls roll and slam into stuff all the time. I'd venture that if the car didn't crack them, they'll be OK. You might relay the incident to your ball driller and insurance company, in case something happens to the balls in the very short term. But, I'd lean towards any problem being just a co-incidence.
I've experienced balls cracking for no good reason, and I've tried to break them open. The nature of the beast is bowling balls are very tough tools made to take (and give out) a beating. If you've rolled them and things seem fine, I'd suggest that you should not experience any problems. But, I've never heard of something like what you describe EVER happening. So I won't "Never say Never". Good luck with them. Thanks for the question.
