new bowling ball question on 7-29

Question
Hi Warren,
I asked you about buying a new ball, I throw straight etc....
What do you think of the STORM "REIGN" for me. Not the "REIGN OF FIRE" Thanks

Answer
Cheryl,
Probably too strong for your slower speed. It would probably either hook to violently (as to be hard to control), or hook out (not do enough to benefit you for the money).

Mild will help with control. Strong, even somewhat strong will have the potential to do too much too soon, unless you drill some of the effect out of the ball. Why spend more for a ball then drill out some of the effect you're buying?

Performance balls are made to be tools to control the lane. But your slower speed also allows a ball to (potentially) hook more. Lightweight balls have some (often minimal core effect) but sometimes any core effect occurs too early on anything but a fairly oily lane pattern (without the excessive dry boards to the outside of the lane - 10 board out to the gutter on most house shots).

There are no magic bowling balls! Go bowling and roll a house ball. Let me know how much more than the three piece urethane house ball (that you are very likely to find) that you need. You may be delighted to find a ball like the shiny, smooth, hard, basic three piece house ball will work just fine for you (but custom fit for you will work even better, lots easier). PS. No manufacturer makes one, unfortunately (unless the new Brunswick Avalanche Urethane has a pancake weightblock in 12 pounds).

Thanks for the question. And the follow-up. Please give the house ball a try, you will be surprised. I bought a discontinued one a few years ago to use as a spare ball and that puppy hooks downlane (where you could use it most!).
