balls coverstock
Question
which type of bowling balls these days have the most agressive coverstock...particle...urethane... pearlized... or the hybrid type?? i was looking at the hybrid type and the new storm tropical silver/black ball after a few reviews i read. any comments on this one?is there anything else out there more agressive not aware of? thank you
Answer
LD,
Depending on what you need them for a heavier load of large particles in a performance ball should penetrate into thicker oil to slow a ball the soonest. Speed dominant, straighter players on lots of oil.
The duller and rougher the coverstock the earlier it helps the ball slow down, so your skills can create the hook downlane. So, solid coverstocks and milder particles (smaller pieces and lighter loads) don't roll quit as early as the monster particle balls.
Hybrids come next, with elements of both pearl and solid reactive covers. The dull urethane balls don't provide as much backend reaction, but are often a transition ball or specialty for specific conditions.
Particle pearls, then pearls then shiny urethane or polyester will skid the longest, retain energy the longest. Use for dry lanes, slow ball speed and/or short/flat patterns.
Lastly, not knowing what you need, I rolled the hybrid and reactive Storm Tropical Heats and found the hybrid rolled about five foot earlier with a similar finish than the smoother versions on a fairly heavy Rec. Navigation pattern from the Kegel Company.
Thanks for the question. Good luck with the new ball.
