re-finishing a ball
Question
QUESTION: Hi, I have a question about re-finishing my bowling balls. I recently purchased a spinner and love using it however i have a hard time getting the oob finish right on my Storm Reign. I do what their maitenance poster says however I think i am applying too much pressure to the compound step and flattening out the Ra and Rs on the ball. Is there a method to this I am missing in terms of when to apply more pressure or less, or is it really hopeless trying to get the oob and i just need to experiment with different finishes to try and find one i like?
thanks
MH
ANSWER: Michael,
Inconsistency (as with the pressure you apply) will result in dubious results. As with your bowling stroke, consistency is key.
Are you refinishing? resurfacing? what is the reason for the work?
Thanks for the question.

QUESTION: At first I was just trying to re-finish but it came out badly so i went and tried to get a full re-surface.
So basically my ball had been used quite a bit and needed a little freshening up. Had become too dull(and i clean my equipment religously after ever set of three games and practice) and so Im trying to follow their guidelines but wasnt sure how and when to apply what force of pressure.
Answer
Michael,
Balls often need different attention depending on finish, use, etc. Check the Storm website and they should have refinishing instructions (at least there used to be).
Some of what you are discovering is different people do the job differently. Some of what you seek is just developing a touch for the job. There is no parameter for pressure (except be consistent). Thanks for the question. Good luck.
