Bowling Grip
Question
Dear Warren,
I think I have problem with the way I grip my bowling ball. I tend to bend my thumb inorder to grip the ball. If I don't do that I feel that the ball wall fall from my hand. I started with 16 lb ball and now with 15 lb ball and I still do the same ( bending my thumb when holding the ball) . I know I should not bend my thumb but I can't get rid of this habbit. What do you recommend I should do ?
Regards
Answer
Nasser,
A well fit ball should just hang from your hand. The majority of the support in a ball fit is span and pitches. Hole size is typically a small part of the overall fit.
Simply, if you must bend your thumb, the hole is big enough for you to need to and the other parts of the grip are not YET perfect. I can't see your hand from here but a picture of your hand in the ball could give me an idea of what the grip element is that needs adjustment. Can you send one?
You can learn to roll with a straighter thumb but if the fit isn't correct you'll struggle. Changing any obvious problems is the fist step. Send me a copy of ALL the fit details and I can see if I see anything dramatically out of line.
Thanks for the question. Hope to hear back from you soon.
