full roller
Question
Hello,
I have a dilemma about my ball layouts.I am a right handed one night a week bowler with a 220 average.I only use my thumb to the first knuckle making my grip span 5.75".I have tinkered with every kind of normal layout, and the ball track never changes, .25" left of middle finger hole and 1" right of thumb hole. My pap is 6.75"- .75" up.Is there any benefit to using full roller layouts? My rev rate is very high, so I mostly use mild layouts. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Jeff
Answer
Jeff,
Congrats on your success. Sounds like you are a full roller. But your rev rate is not that of a typical full roller player.
The grip anomaly, does it cause any problems with your spare game?
Most normal layouts don't put the core in any kind of advantageous position for a full roller, rather they usually retard the effects of the core. I'm surprised your driller hasn't suggested full roller layouts, as some can be bunches of help (help you probably don't need) but some can be very tame and add some control to a strong ball (core and cover).
I'd only suggest you experiment with layouts if there is a ball reaction you need that can't be accomplished with current balls/
layouts. You absolutely should use layouts and balls appropriate to your style, rev rate, ball speed, etc. It makes things easier.
You are probably overcoming some of the reactions you get now, because of your unique delivery and rev rate. I'd suggest if you have good match-ups with your bowling balls, its good. But if those balls are drilled to match-up to your style and the conditions you seek to control even better. Thanks for the question.
