QuestionI always foul with a 3 step approach. The approach platform is about 15ft in my lanes. I need and extra few inches. A 2 step approach is unthinkable. I want to build a standing block and place it behind the approach. This would give me the extra inches necessary not to foul.(My bowling lanes has an elevated approach so I can't just stand a few inches behind it and start. I need a block) Is this legal? Is there in the big PBA rules book, a rule that you can't start from 16 ft back instead of 15? If so it is clearly discriminating against those like me who take big steps. Thanks a million for you help. It means a lot to me.

Hello Benjamin, what you are interested in changing is a facility issue. I spent a couple of days looking through the rule book and a couple of other journals. What I found was, in any sport, after the governing body has established the playing area, the decision to change the surrounding structure falls on the shoulders of the hosting organization.
In the past I served as league president for a few years. Here is the PDF link to the bowling rule book for USBC: http://usbcongress.http.internapcdn.net/usbcongress/bowl/rules/pdfs/2010-2011Pla...
It's a great thing to have on your computer if you have questions about bowling stuff in general. Concerning your question though. You would have to take it up with your house. From your point of view, it would have to pose a safety hazard if nothing else. It can not be an issue to give a player an unfair advantage. You can write to bowling headquarters in Texas only after bring the matter to the attention of your local bowling center.
I appreciate your question and hopefully you will find some satisfaction with your issue in the future. I have had enormous success with timing changes, as well as changing the approach steps of bowlers throughout my career. It's a muscle memory issue that can yield tremendous benefits if you are able to adjust. I can tell you with confidence. SHORTER steps are the key to increased leverage. Especially, if you value the roll of your bowling ball through the pins. Take care and God's Blessings to you Benjamin.
