Too Much Headpin

Question
Thanks Warren. I switched to a 16 lb ball and got better pocket hits. The only time I didnt carry a strike (more than once)was when I didnt throw it right. I'm still leaving the left side (7 pin, 7-4 pin etc) more often than not when I dont strike. To answer you question, the "Hy Road" was not my 300 ball, for that I had a "T-Road" that is about 10 years old. My 14 lb Hy Road is only about 6 months old, and my 16lb Hy road is only a couple of months old. Anyway, what do you suggest I do about leaving the left side? (I'm a left hander)

Thanks

Answer
Gordon,
Leaving the left corner (4-7 and 7), is too strong a move right at the pocket. The optimum reaction for the ball is to be rolling. It sounds like the second transition (from hook phase to roll phase) is too late for your ball.

I'd adjust the surface very minimally, maybe just a scuff to burn a little energy off before the ball hits the pins. Your layout can be a little weaker so the move down lane is not quit so strong. You might also put a very small hole on your axis if there is no weight hole now.

Without knowing more, try cheap and easy first (so re-drill as a last resort). Thanks for the question. Try the scuff and let me know if that's enough. Good luck.
