QuestionI am a female, throw a conventional grip, bowling over 20 years and this season I am having a problem with following through. I have pushing the ball and end up with the ball missing the pocket, the same thing with my spares. My average was 170 last year and now I am down to 155. I cannot seem to correct this. Any advice? Thanks!!!

Hi Linda, after a long period of bowling our grip / fit will change and it has to be investigated by the pro shop professionals. If you have gone from a warmer or colder climate, living in a higher or lower elevation your ball or body may changed.
It is even quite possible you have changed how you release the ball, along with a change in lane conditions in your bowling center. Getting a certified coach to look at your game and give you "their two cents worth" is the best advice I can give. Normally those that still use a conventional grip are not power players and they use lower performance equipment to negotiate the front part of the lanes. Because of physical limitations they may even throw lighter weight equipment. All these aspects of the game have to be considered when evaluating a bowler. Especially how they release the ball.
In summary Linda. Have your fit checked by your pro shop. If all is well then I highly recommend getting a lesson from a certified coach. He/she may see something in your approach and release that can be tweaked to give you more consistency, and accuracy in your release. At best, I would be just wasting more time making suggestions on how to correct your follow through. Since I can't physically see how you release the ball. Spares and strike balls should be on the money for you. Missing pins will just keep on frustrating you. I highly recommend my book if you are not one to hire a coach, or if a coach is not available in your area. Take care and get on this. Inconsistency is like a disease. Once it gets into your game it will only get worst if you don't find a cure.
