Bowling on tough tournament conditions for low rev bowler
Question
Am back to bowling after a few years away, and trying to get back to bowling more tournaments. What I am finding is that when I go to bowl a tournament with a more difficult condition than the usual house shot, usually with lots of oil and most bowlers playing 3rd or 4th arrow (or deeper), I have trouble keeping up as I cannot find a good line to the pocket. What type of equipment/drilling works best for a lower rev bowler on these types of conditions?
Answer
John,
Without knowing more about the lanes, the patterns, the traffic, I'm at a loss. Without knowing more about your game, I can't suggest anything specific. Without knowing what you're using I've got no starting point.
Many players with specific issues use the ball from league and try to play more, less, longer, flatter patterns, and struggle. When you're rev challenged, the ball that works for league won't be the key on a tighter, longer pattern than league without a serious execution adjustment.
Surface and layout can be helpful, along with a strong ball (cover and core), but if you don't have a strong rev rate for your speed and you are speed dominant, surface can often be the key to getting the ball to slow down enough on longer and heavier patterns. There are no magic layouts, just layouts that better fit your speed, rev rate, axis tilt and axis rotation.
Without any information, I can only guess. Ball drillers SHOULD NOT JUST GUESS. Thanks for the question, please provide more information and I'll try to help.
