Bowling Ball Pin Plug

Question
Hello, and thank you for your answer/advise in advance...
Before I was made aware of the dangers of leaving your bowling ball in the car (I did, next to my fishing rod) and what consequences heat can have on a ball, I noticed that the colored plug that fills the pin of the ball was raised above the surface of the outer ball. I took it to the pro shop and they told me they couldn't do anything for me.
I was told that the only thing that I could do was to sand it down to the level surface of the ball. I did this. All was going well until the other day, bowling, I noticed that the yellow plug had broken off and that in its place was obviously a hole.
Now, I believe this is called the Pin of the ball. Can I just fill in the hole and all will be well, or are there consequences to losing this plug? The ball is an Ebonite Tornado Reactive.
Again, thank you for any information you may be able to provide me!
Keep Bowling!!! =O)

Answer
John,
If you don't roll near the pin (hole) don't worry about it. If you don't want to take any chances, you could have it plugged (with a contrasting color like the pin was).

The pin identifies the top of the weightblock. There should be no consequences, but any ball can encounter a screw head, or foreign object that might cause damage. I'd suggest you should have nothing to worry about. But, when a half ton machine picks up a bowling ball and whips it back to you at around 35-40 mph, you never know.

Good luck and good bowling. Thanks for the question.
