on line drilling
Question
is there a reputable bowling site "on line" you can recommend for its drilling expertise since i have none around here. or any other recommendations thoughts.
Answer
Louis,
I've never thought much of online drilling services. It's said they are provided for areas that don't have drilling services (pro shops), but most bowlers don't have good fits so they wouldn't know one if it bit them. There is so much more to drilling a ball than just three holes in it somewhere. I understand that some parts of the country don't have enough bowlers to support a pro shop, but the reason there's not many bowlers (I believe) is the lack of a competent shop.
A good operator can create comfortable fits, make the game easier, truly create the tools for more consistent play. Is there a good shop far away? Would your center be willing to host a guy coming to the center, fitting and drilling equipment for the bowlers? I'm sure others would appreciate the chance to update and improve their equipment. Bowlers bowl more if their equipment fits well and works.
I've thought about this idea a lot, downstate in Illinois are quite a few towns with small centers but no shop services. Sometimes players must travel hours to get to the nearest store, and it might not be the best operator???
If your hand is not available, it's impossible to get a good fit. Without your stats (ball speed, rev rate, axis tilt, axis rotation, lane conditions -actually getting to see a bowler roll the ball) it's difficult to put an effective layout into a good ball, so a lot of stores just drill a basic label layout and move on. So, I always tell players "You can NOT out perform BAD ball reaction." Thanks for your question. Good luck.
