Hello Charlie, injury to your shoulder, not good! Learning to bowl left handed, good! I truly don't have a quick fix solution for bowling left handed. Most would tell you to simply mirror what you did with your right hand. (Unless, that is how you hurt the shoulder!)
I remember when I took my first class as a bowling instructor. They asked all instructors to deliver the ball with the opposite hand. This was so you could experience what a beginner bowler goes through. The difficulties of trying to control what goes on with their feet, body, arm, hand, eyes and their mind. It was tough at first. Finding the steps that were comfortable to your tempo. Positioning your hand and controlling it through the release. After a while you would start remembering what made your shot great on the right side, and you would try to do it on your left. It gave us an edge. If you were a beginner you would have no edge.
In summary Charlie, if you really want to give it a try, start with your feet. Get your approach together. Do this without the ball. Once you get your pace going, get a house ball and start with the suitcase release. ( I recently answered a question about the suitcase release on this forum.) This will definitely give you success until you are able to start setting your hand and thumb more forward facing to the pins.
My book is a wonderful source of information for learning to bowl. It continues to grow in sales day after day. I highly recommend it! Take care Charlie and the best of luck in your recovery.
