New ball
Question
I haven't bowled on a league or bought a new bowling ball in 7-8 years and I am totally confused how to pick one out now that I am bowling again and I was hoping you could give me a recomendation. My favorite balls back 7-8 years ago were Brunswick Combat Zone and Brunswick Parker Bohn Zone. I am not a power bowler who cranks up my ball, my strengths are my accuracy and want a ball that doesn't overreact. I like Brunswick but would be open to other manufacturers.
Thanks
Answer
Dan,
Brunswick is not unopposed to keeping around a successful concept. Their mid price reactive Karma series has the Powercoil 18 cover (from the Danger Zone Series) and a lesser core (without a chunk of bismuth graphite inside) but the same shape as that of the Combat Zone. On different lane oils (modern stuff is thicker and slicker) the Karma solid or pearl will go fairly straight down the lane and give you a late move on the lane similar to what you experienced years ago. If, I assume, the lane conditions you bowl on are the Typical House Shot (fairly easy) you probably can play around second arrow and will see a manageable ball reaction (if you don't roll too hard and have average tilt and rotation).
Thanks for the question, let me know what you try. Marry Christmas.
