QuestionI would like to confirm if I have a correct technical understanding of the RG and RG differential specs of a bowling ball.
For a ball with high RG say 2.57 the best layout is skid or pin above fingers because of its high rg rate while a low rg will best suit a quick roll layout or pin below fingers. While the rg differential will give you an idea if the ball can go to a high flare position or just semi straight line.

Armando, from the Philippines, Greetings my friend. And Oh myyyy...
Radius of Gyration or Rg, pertaining to the "numbers" is how a ball moves when the pin is up, verses it's Differential when the ball moves when the pin is laying down.
I like to personally think of the movement as more cover influencing, verses core influencing. This way I can choose ball based on big numbers verses the smaller numbers. I am sure other bowlers may think of it as being more conducive to spin, verses forward rolling the ball.
Keep in mind, you get a smaller flare with the smaller number differential, and you get a larger flare and ball travel at times with a larger differential number. However, as always flare is based on pin placement on the ball.
If you think of it in terms of the Rg numbers, pretty much the same thing applies. You can store more energy with larger Rg numbers, or your can burn more energy early with the higher differential numbers numbers. It's sort of like taking a Low Rg ball with a high differential and pinning it above the fingers and getting a skid/flip reaction.
Oh okay, stop laughing... I can hear you now saying, "What the hell did he just say?" Also, think to yourself, I read your question first, and thought the very same thing!
:-).
In summary Armando, Yes you are right...If you pin a ball above the fingers you will potentially maximize the "skid" characteristics of a ball bases on it's "higher RG" value as you stated i.e. 2.57 verses say, 2.50. However, the ball's Rg Differential will tell you if the ball flares a lot, or a little. The lower differential ball would flare less. Higher differential ball pinned in the same position will flare more.
Armando, often I like to expand this conversation, however I will only do it in person! So I will close for now. Come to Las Vegas, it's a great place to visit. Everyone should come here to bowl! -Coach
