QuestionHas been brought to our attention that allot of league bowlers are standing at the very end of the approach with there feet hanging off the back the approach, is this within league regulations or is it considered a foul? Because you cannot cross the foul line. It is unclear of this situation in the manual, can U help to clarify this.
Thank You

Hi Mike, the rules clearly state that a foul only occurs if part of the bowlers body crosses the foul line. The back of the approach is not an area of play. The only area of play is from gutter to gutter and passed the foul line. Since the ball is not in play until it leaves the players hand where they stand is not an issue.
Even in modern times some approaches are shorter than normal. Bowlers may stand as far back as needed to negotiate the approach. -Coach
