Answer
Greg,
Great question!
Yes, he's old enough to start lifting - but only under supervision of a trained adult! Try pushups squats against a wall, crunches, and leg raises. ( they call this pilates now!) Parents can go to a local college and ask the stregnth and conditioning coach to reccomend a routine. I would suggest using lighter weight (70% or less of max) and higher reps (12-15) to start, and do a full body curcuit, never stopping to rest so that you also get a cardio/anerobic benifit.
Is there room to jump rope? Don't blame me for broken furniture!
Do not use energy bars/drinks or supplements of any kind!
If your doctor ok's it, use a little protien powder if you must! Just eat lots of fish and chicken, pasta rice, and all the fruit and veggies you can stand! For energy/snacks try bananas, yogurt, oj, and natural smoothies!
