Jumping in basketball
Question
I dont know if this is taught in basketball, but is there anyway when jumping to reduce the chances of landing and spraining an ankle? Because i always end up spraining my right ankle, either i just land wrong-- which i dont know how to fix, or i land on someones foot and that rolls it. Either way ive had many problems with it, and want to know what i could do to better my landing and jumping- beside simply keeping the knees bent.
Answer
Dear Jonathan,
Even the best basketball players can get a sprained ankle. There is not a magic key that will prevent this from happening at least once a year. What you can do so that you get less damage is improve the range of motion of your ankles and strengthen them. Stretch your ankle in the position that you usually get the strain and walk on like that. Do some workouts like reverse ankle raises etc.
