ball going out of bounds
Question
if a ball is going out of bounds and a player is attempting to save it because his team was the last to touch it, can a player of the opposing team impede his path by boxing him out as he would in a rebounding situation, or would it be a blocking foul?
Answer
HI Victor,
If the player on the opposing team blocks him out and creates contact that impedes that player from getting the ball, then yes, a pushing foul can be called. It really depends a lot on where the players are located on the court in relation to the ball, and who obtained position first while going for the ball. Always remember this: Referees make most calls based on the concept of Advantage/disadvantage. If one player does something to give them an advantage while putting an opposing player at a disadvantage, then 99% of the time, the official is going to make the call. I hope that helps.
