Fouls
Question
When a person is shooting and they are hit on the arm or the opponent hits the ball or body part, they are awarded two shots. When can the ref award a one point shot for a foul? Does it have to be on your side of the court? Besides shooting, when can you go to the free-throw line and shoot when a foul has taken place?
Answer
HI Carla,
A two shot foul is given only when a player is fouled in the act of shooting. They are given three free throws if they are fouled behind the Three Point Arc. There are no shooting fouls in which only one shot is given, unless a player was fouled in the act of shooting and makes the basket as a continuation play. Two point are given as the basket is counted, and only 1 free throw will be administered. The only other time free throws are awarded is when a team is the "Bonus". This means that the opposing team has committed a certain number of team fouls. When this happens any foul whether shooting or not will put the team in Bonus at the free throw line to shoot what is called 1+1. Which means they must make the first shot in order to get the second one. I hope that answered your question.
