Basket good as time expires after a blocked shot
Question
Officiating basketball question:In an NCAA game Saturday afternoon, Player A shoots the ball before the halftime horn sounds. His shot is deflected, horn sounds and the ball goes in. Does the shot attempt end when the ball is blocked and should the score count?
Answer
Hi Bill,
I am not sure of NCAA rules, but CIF High School basketball rules would count the basket. As long as the shooter released the ball before the horn sounds, the ball is live until it goes through the hoop, hits the rim or backboard, or touches the floor. Most College rules are similar to High school. What was the ruling during the game?
