Answer
Jason -
I can only give general info to you because I know nothing about the what, when, why or how of your injury.
But there are some things I do know:
Most athletes attempt to push too hard too soon worrying they will loose their edge if they don't - that is a complete fallacy.
You should not supervise your recovery.  You need a sports physician to recommend several competent Physical Therapists, so you can select the one you like, and you need your PT to suggest several athletic trainers that will follow the PT's prescription, so you can select the one you like, to get you back to better than before.
You will find most of the physical recovery process has nothing to do with basketball.  You are looking at an holistic approach to recovery, mostly cross training.
You must understand, your entire body has atrophied, and you need to build your entire body back.

The good thing about all this is you will be a much better physical specimen at the end of your rehabilitation than you were before your injury, but you must ride that fine line of not over training while you're recovering but pushing the envelope hard enough to get results.
Remember this, let your PT decide when you should begin pushing, and how you should begin pushing.  You nor your athletic trainer know more than your PT does!!!

While you're rehabbing you should take lots of time to study the game of basketball.  Ask your coach if you can assist at practices and be there on the bench during games.  Take this time that has been given you to become a student of the game.  That way when you actually begin the sports specific part of your recovery you will understand what you are learning and how you can apply it.  This recovery time allows you to increase your basketball IQ.

Part of your study time should be my website, www.BasketballShootingCoach.com, and the Free Book, "Basketball - It's All About the Shot," and other basketball philosophies.

Keep your heart and mind on the prize and enjoy the journey from here to there.  You've been given an opportunity most serious athletes never get, a chance to understand why you do what you do on the court and in practice.  You can consider yourself lucky, but only if you follow the professionals guiding your rehab and take the time to increase your basketball IQ.

You, ultimately, are in charge of your recovery.  You can come back a much better basketball player than you were.  It's really up to you.

Good luck and all the best.

Keep me apprised if your situation,
Coach Jones
