outdoor basketball courts
Question
Hi Coach
We are in the design process of an outdoor basketball court.....nothing too huge, about a 30 by 40 footer.
My question pertains to the type of surface we should install....we are not afraid to drop some $$ on this court, so we are thinking something beyond a plain concrete or asphalt court. Preferably something with a bit of cushioning and/or drainage to it.
I have looked online at a number of the advanced surface courts.....SportCourt, Duracourt, Versacourt, etc, etc, etc.
I have zero first hand experience with any of these.
I am looking for some guidance, or an informed opinion in the selection of an outdoor court surface. Any knowledge you can impart will be appreciated.
Thank you for your involvement with All Experts.

Answer
Hi Jay -
This is a tad askew of questions normally asked but I have some advice.
If at all possible I'd install a full-court. Now I know you have restrictions so you can shorten the court by using high school 3 point lines and place the apex of theses 3 feet (or less) apart at half court (kind of how baskets are set up in a gym on the sides of a court). We're talking approximately 50' X 42' dimensions.
As far as surface selection I would rely on the expertise from Ryan at www(dot)produnkhoops(dot)com. They are not tied in to any specific court manufacturer and will guide you to the proper surfacing for your needs and wants. I've previously worked with Ryan and respect and recommend him.
Also, get a nice sturdy goal. It only takes a rough dunk from one player to break or bend a goal.
Thanks for the question - hope this helps. And while I'm at it, download my FREE Basketball Shooting Book at BasketballShootingCoach(dot)com. Any further questions? Please contact me.
