technical fouls
Question
WHEN A PLAYER ATTEMPS TO BLOCK A SHOT, AND SLAPS THE BACKBOARD AND MAKE THE BOARD SHAKE CAUSING THE SHOOTER TO MISS THE SHOT. ISN'T THAT A TECHNICAL FOUL FOR SLAPPING THE BACKBOARD, AND ALSO GOAL TENDING ?
Answer
HI Thomas,
If a player makes a legitimate shot block attempt and in the "follow through motion" hits the backboard it is NOT a technical foul. However, if the ball is on top of the cylinder and the action of the hand hitting the backboard interferes with the ball going in, then yes that can be goal tending. The only time a player will be hit with a Technical Foul for contact with the back board is if he/she hits it with malicious intent and with un-sportsman like conduct.
I hope that answered your question.
