Baseball college

Question
Hi names Jonathan i am 18 from New York. I am a Pitcher i throw between 85-90. I Have 3 pitches i can throw Change-up curveball and of course fastball. Fastball sinks and Change-up has some sinking action to it. I am a right hander. Now i go to a private school that doesnt offer baseball. I started playing legion ball then found out that i have been throwing with just my shoulder and not my body hurt my shoulder little bit nothing major no tears just some strain. So that 85-90 might go higher once i can master the using the body when i throw and not just the arm. Now my dream is to one day make it to the pros i know its a big dream but i will lay everything down to make it. I'll work harder than anyone ever has to make it. Baseball is in me its what i have loved to play since i was 3 years old. There is no greater feeling than being on that mound with the ball in your hand knowing the game is in your control how u pitch will determine the outcome. If u could tell if it is possible to get a scholarship to a college going to the school i do or if not how to and if u could what do college coaches look for in pitchers. If you could answer those things for me it would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

Answer
Alright Jonathan,
Don't worry about the pro scouts.  That'll take care of itself.  Are you entering your senior year?  How tall are you and how much do you weigh?

Everything sounds good (18 years old, three pitches, 85-90mph).  There's more than one way to skin a cat, my friend and if you are good enough or have the required potential, nothing's going to keep you a secret.  My first suggestion would be to make your intentions known to the colleges of your choice and their respective baseball programs.  Another smart move would be to contact a respected local college coach and ask him if you can work out with his pitching staff.  By simply hanging around a good pitching coach, you can learn more in 15 minutes than you'll learn during your entire high school career.

One question I have to ask is.....why transfer to a school that doesn't offer baseball?  Is this a done deal?

The bottom line is you need to keep throwing.  If only in the bullpen, then so be it, but you've got to maintain a sound physical regiment that includes long toss, cardio workouts (as hard as you can make them), and a weight lifting program focused on the legs but including the whole body (swimming is great).  You do all these things, you make your intentions known, and you continue to throw around 90mph, and I'll guarantee you schools will be beating down your door.  Don't let this school situation be an excuse and I see no reason why you couldn't earn a scholarship to any school you want.

Let me know if you need anything else and good luck.

Donovan
