Your opinion on my arm troubles
Question
I am a senior this year. I am 6'2'' 184lbs, and have been clocked at 90mph on the gun. I have been experiencing some pain in my elbow. It seems to get better after a week of rest but then it hurts for days after every game I pitch. what warm up suggestions or methods do you recommend and do you think i have a problem that cant be healed with ice and rest?
Answer
At this point in your career there is probably nothing that I can tell you that you haven't heard about warming up. And from the way it sounds its not the warming up that is your problem. There is really no way of me knowing the extent of your injury so my opinion or guess isn't going to be the best thing for you. I'm assuming that you have health insurance so go to your doctor as soon as possible and tell him your problem. Ask for an MRI and do everything you can to get one. Even exaggerate your pain if you have to. MRIs are expensive but your insurance carrier should cover most of if not all of the bill.
When I was a year younger than you I was throwing about 87-88 and then started to get elbow pain. I thought that rest and ice would fix it but every game I pitched it got worse and worse. It turns out that my Ulnar nerve was out of place and I had really bad tendonitis. And since I had surgery in October I tried to rush my rehab to be ready for my first Varsity season. I ended up over compensating because my elbow wasn't ready and then I messed up my shoulder permanently. Not to alarm you but don't take this injury lightly. You don't want to be like me and not be able to lift your arm above shoulder level. If it turns out that nothing serious if wrong then try to go to physical therapy. Best of luck to you and keep me informed!
