Curveball
Question
I throw a curveball and it breaks a lot. I haven't thrown in a game yet because I am unsure on how it will work. When throw it at my house the same distance that I would throw it in a game (60 ft). The ball gets about 1 or 2 feet from the plate and it just breaks all the way into the dirt. Depending on how I throw it it does 2 different things (1, breaks into the dirt , 2, starts high and breaks into the zone). When it breaks into the dirt it appears to be a strike before it breaks, is this a good pitch?
Thanks, Ray

you have a few good pitches on your hands. The question is when to use them. Use the curve that breaks into the dirt when you have two strikes on the hitter. Use the other curve when the count is 0-0, 1-1, 1-0 and 0-1 (and if you get really good at throwing it for a strike, 3-2 and 2-1)
Be sure to throw a few curves for strikes before you start throwing them in the dirt. You want the hitters to respect the fact that when they see the curveball, its going to be a strike. That will get them swinging, that's when you get them to chase by throwing the one in the dirt in front of the plate.
Watch Josh Beckett throw in the world series. He has a great curveball. when you're watching the game try and guess which curveball he's going to throw depending on the count and the hitter.
