Rating Players in a Tryout
Question
What would be the best why to rate a player during a tryout consisting of Throwing, Fielding, and Hitting? These will be age 7 to 12 year old kids.
WE have a tryout coming up and have decided to use a draft like the following.
1) All kids will be rated
2) Kids with like rating will be grouped into rounds
3) Coaches will be able to draft kids from a round until all kids are selected. Then they move on to the next round or group of kids.
We are attempting to put in place a rating system that would be fair to all involved.
Thanks!

Answer
I would have all the kids throw fron a certain distance in the outfield. Then I would rate them as AA(above average) if they threw it all the way or one bounce. A (average) if it took two bounces. B(below average) if the throw is way short. same ratings with the others If they catch , or hit all the balls they are AA. Miss one of 5, A player. miss two or more BA player.Same with hitting.give them a number of pitches and if they hit them all and hard with good mechanics they gethighest rating. If they hit them all but not particurlly hard then they get next rating. if they swinfg and miss or hit them with nothing on it they get next rating. I hope this helps.
