Out of Play Ruling
Question
Last night in a Little League game, a hard hit batted ball deflected off the 3rd baseman, who was in fair territory, and then rolled out of play past the side fencing. I had a runner on 2nd base at the time who was between 2nd and 3rd base by the time the ball went out of bounds. Does he score? The umpire only awarded him to 3rd base.
Thanks
Answer
The runner scores, no doubt about it. When a fair ball is thrown or deflected out of play all runners shall advance 2 bases past the base in which they started the play.
Is it possible, however, that your league has an over-riding rule regarding balls out of play.
catcher Qs - throw to 2nd
Dropped third strike + foul tip
