Question
Our team bases loaded batter hit ball to second baseman, which he fell over the umpire on the field while trying to catch the pop up, ball fell. All our guys on base came across home plate and batter stayed at second after the other team got ball to pitcher. Other team coaches and one umpire, which both umps are kids (13 & 15)(hello)called the ball a dead ball because umpire interference. They made all our kids return to the bases except one and the batter go back to first base. Is this the correct way! Very confused on this!!! I think we got cheated! Thank you, Kris
Answer
It sounds to me like your umpires got influenced by the other teams coaches. If there was less than two outs and a pop up was hit then it would be an infield fly. If there were two outs and the umpire interferes with the fielder then he needs to let the play continue. Your umpires made a call to try to give something to both teams. They should have just let it go.
