small town politics in pitching machine
Question
Ok first let me thank you for your time,And i will try to be brief,
What should i do ,I have been developing my boy since he was three to play ball,he is six he is in his first year in pitching machine .Because i was afraid politics would hampered my boys chances as far as allstars was concearned i chose to coach his team .so when it came to drafts the other coaches that have been in the loop longer knew the better players and used a rider rule to keep better picks together in short i got a really young team and the older 2 i have had no experience.(6-8 year old group).Well ive have not won a game this year but i built an awesome pitcher and my son has the best batting record on the team by far.My problem is the coach on the sister team for this team got railroaded to resign.Well as soon as i heard the news i called the new coach after i spoke to the old coach and he didnt want to speak to me but he did say he was only picking 2 kids off my team to join his allstar team.one my pitcher and another one was a friend of the family.I then said your not going to pick my son the best hitter on my team and he said he would but he didnt want me to coach.the board said that i had right of refusall and my son automaticcally goes. should i help coach or not.
Thanks
Answer
Danny,
Clearly I can't say anything here. Anytime anything is organized, politics is sure to follow along with favoritism, unfairness, etc.
Keep coaching if you enjoy it. If it is a pain in the rear, then stop. That doesn't mean your son should stop also. If he wants to play, then encourage him and keep working with him on your own. Enjoy his games. If he truly is good, coaches will play him. Talent overrides politics at this level, believe me. Don't worry about an All-Star game his first year in the league. That's not something you should get steamed up about.
Hope this helps!
