player disiplineary actions
Question
Thank you Brian for your ansewer.I have three sons that have been involved in little league since t-ball.My two younger sons are in the 11-12 year old divison. My question,Can a coach in little league bench a player for a entire game for reasons of discilpine? Child was being silly during practice and not paying attention. After sitting out the rest of practice the player apologized to both coaches. The player shows up for the next game and his name was not on the roster. Not even as a sub!Is this a action that is supported by the little league rulebook? Thank you for your help.
Answer
Deana,
I don't have a copy of the Little League Official Rules, but I don't believe the rulebook addresses disciplinary actions.
It seems to me that the coach was pretty over the top in the situation you describe. Baseball is supposed to be fun, particularly at that level. However, if the coach has a set of rules, then the players need to follow those rules.
My guess is that this kid will either forever follow the rules of his coaches in the future or quit playing baseball as soon as he can.
