Hitting (Point of Contact)
Question
I am 14 years old and during my days in little league and so far i am in pony, hitting coaches teach "squash the bug" at the point of contact. Some coaches say that the "squash the bug" method is not helpful and will give the hitter no power because of sitting on the back leg, however they say to be on your toes during the point of contact. Whenever I watch major leaguers at the point of contact it is their toe only touching the ground or sometimes thier foot is off the ground.
I am so confused, which is the proper method the "squash the bug" method during the point of contact or lifting the heel and having the toe only touching the ground??
Answer
What I teach is that you dont worry so much about that back side. So many big leagueers dont squash the bug they worry more about getting there hands inside the ball and thu the ball. If you start worry about squashing the bug you may begin to pull off the ball and rolling over on the ball.Think drive your hands and back knee into the ball.
