RBI count on a pass ball
Question
Does the batter get awarded an RBI when at the plate with 1 strike and the next ball is a passball and the guy on third comes home?
Answer
Hi Bonnie,
at first I thought it was not an RBI but ...ooops... a friend of mine corrected me... according to most league rules,
"... scorer shall credit the batter with a run batted in for every run that scores:
(1) unaided by an error AND as part of a play begun by the batter's safe hit, sacrifice bunt, sacrifice fly, infield out or fielder's choice, or a passed ball, ... "
I don't think its a steal though, unless the runner on 3rd was breaking for home before the ball was misplayed by the catcher.
Hope this helps,
