Manger pulls kid from LL game for behavior
Question
Manager pulls own player from LL or Ripken game for a behavior problem. Continuous batting order. How do you handle it when the batter's turn comes?
I understand that a player can leave the game for injury without penalty, for obvious reasons. As an aside, can that injured player again return to the game?
Is a behavior problem considered like an injury, or is it a different animal altogether? Does the team record an out the next time the batter is due up, or every single time thereafter that the batter is due up? Or is this just a judgment call of the umpire?
Thanks!
Answer
Stewart,
Little League rules state that a player must receive mandatory play (6 consecutive outs and 1 at bat). If you are playing with a continuous batting order, then everyone would bat. A manager MAY NOT restrict a player from playing due to behavior issues. The only time a player is removed from a game is by an ejection by an umpire. Therefore, the manager can be in trouble for removing a player who was not injured.
If a player is injured and you are using a continuous batting order, then you just skip over that players spot in the lineup. There are no outs or no penalty for the team.
