umpire mistakes

Bases loaded with 2 out and batter swings and misses pitch when umpire calls batter out (strike 3/3rd out)and catcher rolls ball to mound as defense heads towards dugout. The baserunners begin to walk towards dugout when they realize it was only strike 2 and now begin to advance to next base. Base runners had already began to walk off field and were clearly out of base path. Umpire standing with back to playing field as runners continue to run the bases and cross home plate.  Umpire had called strikeout. Do these runs count or should this be a dead ball situation and runners return to originally occupied base?

Answer
If it was the umpire's actual fault, then neither team should be penalized.....Redo & move on.....

However, it's teh defensive team's job to always know teh exact play situation of the game.....
