LEFT PICK OFF MOVE
Question
Hi,
My son is a 13 year left handed pitcher. He was called for a balk the other day while "reading" the runner at first base. From the stretch he lifted his right leg to about horizontal and was accused of pausing and then delivering to the plate. I see lefties all the time pause and look at the runner on first base to freeze them then deliver to the plate. Is it illegal to pause and or slow down your lift leg dramatically to freeze the runner?
He is playing on an AAU team.
thanks
Jeff
Answer
Yes, the rule book says the pitcher must move "in a continuous motion in delivering the pitch".....any slow down, change of direction, or pause is considered a balk...
Great question.....
